Now that Market USA FCU has completed it's migration to Check 21, here are a few tips to help you stay on top of your checking account(s), now more than ever.

What You Need to Know:

  • You will have less 'float' time. Checks will clear in HOURS, not DAYS. You will want to be sure you have enough money in your account to cover any checks you write.
  • You may begin to see substitute checks. If you view your check images on-line, or request a copy of a check, you may see a substitute check instead. This will contain all the information of your original check. A substitute check is the legal equivalent of your paper check.
  • You have specific legal rights. If you believe you have lost money because a substitute check was not properly charged to your account, you have the right to file for an expedited credit.

What You Can Do:

  • Sign up for direct deposit - Signing up for direct deposit can get a paycheck into your account faster than any other method and usually there are no holds placed on funds that are directly deposited into your account.
  • Customize your bill due dates - Are your bills falling at awkward times of the month? If so, call your creditors and request a change. Many creditors, including credit card companies, mortgage companies and utilities, are happy to accommodate you. Some even allow you to choose your due date online.
  • Use Internet Banking and Bill Payer - Want to put high-speed technology to work for you? Use Internet Banking and Bill Payer. This is your personal control panel on which you can monitor direct deposits, activate auto-pay, check your balance and eliminate the need for mail float altogether. Internet Banking is free and Bill Payer is free if you make a minimum of two payments per month. To enroll for Internet Banking, please call 301-586-3400 or 800-914-4268.
  • E-Alerts - Keep track of your daily account balance with e-Alerts. Have an email sent to you or a text sent to your mobile device. You can also receive alerts when checks clear, balance goes below a certain limit,payroll is deposited, etc. Just log into Internet banking to sign up for e-Alerts.
  • Apply for a line of credit - A personal line of credit can be attached to your account so if you have a deposit that doesn't clear in time or you make a subtraction mistake you can avoid costly over drafts to your account.

e-Statements

With e-statements, you will receive your statement quicker than through regular mail. When you sign up, you will be notified by e-mail when your statement is ready. You can then log into Internet Banking to retrieve your statement which you can print or save on your computer. In addition, you will be able to retrieve up to 24 months worth of statements. If you need a copy of a statement that can no longer be retrieved, you can request a copy through our Member Service Center via e-mail at memberservices@marketusafcu.com or by calling 301-586-3400, option 3 or 800-914-4268, option 3 for a nominal fee. e-Statements are safer than paper statements because you eliminate the paper documentation some thieves use to steal your identity. In addition, e-Statements are environmentally friendly. Plus, when you bank online, you can detect fraud quicker and take necessary action sooner to reduce further damage.

e-Alerts

With this service you can sign up for free instant e-mail notification when any of the following events occur:

  • An account balance gets to a certain level
  • An automatic deposit was posted to your account
  • Certificate maturing
  • An automatic account withdrawal
  • Loan balance
  • Loan due date
  • Cleared checks
  • Non-Sufficient Funds (NSFs)/Returned item

In addition, you will also receive e-Alerts for emergency closings, Internet Banking downtime and other important information.

How to Sign Up

Simply log onto Internet Banking and access the e-Statements/e-Alerts tab. You will then need to read and accept the Terms and Conditions. Next, just enter your e-mail address and checkmark any e-Alerts you are interested in. You will receive an e-mail from Market USA FCU Notifications asking you to activate your e-mail address. You will need to activate your e-mail address within 7 days.

Later, if you decide you would rather have paper statements instead, simply access the e-Statements/e-Alerts tab, click on e-Statements and choose "Stop Service". By unsubscribing to e-Statements, you are also unsubscribing to e-Alerts.

Security

We have always used necessary security approaches to ensure your information is protected. Please note that Market USA FCU will never ask that you enter your account number, passwords, PINs or any other personal information using a link provided via e-mail.

View Your Cleared Checks Online

Through Internet Banking, you can now view cleared checks! After you log in, simply access the "Cleared Checks" button at the top of the Account Summary page. Then enter the dates you are interested in. It's that easy! You may also view them from your transaction history screen. You can view the front and back images of your checks, save the images or print them out. You will be able to view checks cleared on Feb 5th, 2007 or later, and the images will be available for one year. Great news! You can now make deposits at selected ATMs in the Co-Op Network! To find out if Co-Op ATMs in your area accept deposits, simply visit www.co-opnetwork.org (You can also choose the Co-Op Network ATM locator under Product Links.) Check the box "Deposit Taking Only," and either enter your address, city and state or zipcode. The results of your search will list the ATM locations near you that accept deposits. There are 6,000 ATMs in the Co-Op Network that accept deposits.

Allpoint ATMs will be removed from Giant Food stores over the next few months. This is due to a conflict between Giant and a bank concerning the ATM rights to these stores. Protecting your credit, debit and ATM cards

It is important to protect your debit, credit and ATM cards. With identity theft on the rise, a criminal with your account information could easily perform unauthorized transactions. Below are some suggestions on how to help prevent this crime from happening to you:

  • If you plan to use your cards for on-line purchases verify that the website uses a secure encryption system (an encryption system ensures that your information cannot be obtained by an outside person).
  • It is best to keep a list of your credit, debit and ATM card numbers and their corresponding emergency telephone numbers in a safe place such as a lock box or a safe deposit box. This will be helpful if you should ever need to report a lost or stolen card. When not carrying your cards with you be sure to keep them in a designated secure location.
  • Be mindful when using your cards for purchases at local vendors that your card is not in direct view of another customer´s cellular phone. Many phones are now equipped with cameras. These cameras are virtually undetectable and could easily capture your card number and expiration date without your knowledge.
  • Keep all documents containing your account information in a secure location. Be sure to use a paper shredder when it is time discard such documents.

New Loan Forms and Internet Loan Application

We have launched a new Internet Loan Application which provides an instant decision to qualified borrowers. This means you can apply 24/7 and receive a decision on your loan request! We also have converted to new loan forms which enable members to initially sign open-end loan plan documents and then receive subsequent loans without much additional paperwork or required signatures! Once a member signs an open-end plan, subsequent consumer loans can be disbursed without additional signatures with the exception of secured loans for members in certain states. Apply Now!

84 Month Auto Loans Now Available

We now offer 84 month auto loans with a minimum loan amount of $35,000. The maximum term for Kia, Daihatsu, and Suzuki is 60 months.

>Attention Stop & Shop and Giant Landover Associates - Credit Union Deduction Changes - April 23, 2005

Associates must now utilize Stop & Shop/Giant L´s Associate Express to begin or increase their payroll deduction to the credit union. Recently Stop & Shop and Giant-L announced the rollout of Associate Express which is an online self service application that gives associates access to personal HR information and allows associates to update much of that information. With this rollout, the credit union is no longer able to initiate or change payroll deduction amounts. The credit union will continue to accept and process changes to how your payroll deduction amount is distributed amongst your credit union accounts.

You may access the Associate Express site at HR Express from any location with an internet connection. To add a deduction to the credit union, you will need our routing number which is 255077493 and your account number. For the Financial Institution name, put Market USA FCU. If changing deduction amounts, it is fine to leave the financial institution name as Ahold USA FCU.
